From roseBud42:
I was there tonight, and I don't think he looked frightened either. Jerome knew the E camera crew was there, so obviously Clay knew it too. I think he made a point of coming out to sign a few autographs, but was planning from the start to go quickly back in as soon as the E crew started getting closer. I was standing over towards the side Clay came to when he first came out, and he made a point of saying that he would not have time to do pics tonight. (Although, he said he felt bad about it, and did do a pic with one person that I saw.) However, I got the distinct impression that he knew he was going to have to hurry in order to avoid the cameras. I bet he and Jerome agreed that Jerome would keep an eye out for the cameras as Clay signed a few autographs - and then they would get back inside the door before they could give the camera crew any satisfaction. It seemed more a matter of hurrying, rather than being afraid of anything. JMO, of course.
I had a great time tonight, because I was lucky enough to be sitting in the peasant seat. It was a blast! When I purchased my ticket a couple of months ago, I had no idea that there was a possibility that A101 would be the peasant seat. What an awesome surprise - and since yesterday was my birthday, it was just about the best present I could have wished for. Getting my picture taken with Clay and his castmates, the cute little trophy and most of all - having the guy we all adore kneeling right in front of me as they sang - what a fun experience! All I can say is - WOW. That man really does have THE most beautiful eyes.

From mariedrummond:
she said that E made people reword their answers so that they were a complete sentence, instead of "since AI" they made them answer "Ive been a Clay fan since American Idol" she also said that jerome showed up behind them at the stagedoor before Clay came out and they joked that they hoped he didnt push in for an autograph and he said he was just waiting for E to overstep their bounds..
p.s. she didnt talk to E, she just evesdropped.

From mariedrummond:
Hi guys:
I finally made it to NC to my hotel where there is NO room until later (my reservation was for tonight and tomorrow), but I drove through the night after Spamalot and figured I would pay for the extra night - grrrrrr. At least, they gave me coffee and I can use my laptop.
I was there early yesterday after driving down from Montreal. I was talking with one of the security ladies and saw a cameraman, with a boom sound person and an interviewer. I asked her if she knew who they were, she did not. So with my sweetest smile, I went over to the cameraman and asked who they were. He told me E! - I smiled ever so sweetly, thanked him and walked away.
This was around 6:30. I went around Shubert Alley trying to find fans to let them know.
In the meantime, people started lining up for the show and the E crew was trying to get fans to talk to them. I would say about 5 or 6 did. Nobody I know. I, Miss Detective, kind of snuck up behind the cameraman to hear the interviewer. She had the same three questions for all the interviewees: How long have you been a Clay fan; what was your reaction to the 'news'; and what do you think about his 'family' arrangement (i.e. Parker, Jaymes).
In the case of one of the fans, the interviewer kept telling her to rephrase her answer to make it a complete sentence. She had answered to question 1: "Since American Idol". So she then 'corrected' her answer to say "I've been his fan since American Idol". THe interviewer then told her to repeat her answer but using Clay's name in the sentence. Third time's a charm and she let it go at: "I've been a fan of Clay Aiken since American Idol". The interviewer did not make her 'change' her answer, just refined it so they can use it 'independently' any which way they want I guess - what I mean is the 'interviewer' was not doing an 'interview' - she had her three questions (the same for everyone) and just wanted a 'complete sound bite'.
Anyways, at intermission, I saw Jerome and told him about the E! crew. He thanked me and that was that... or so I thought...
After the show, very small SD crowd, I turned around and lo and behold, Jerome was standing behind me, on the crowd side of the barricades. At that point, the E crew was still trying to get fans to talk to them - NONE of the regular fans that I know talked to E!. But the lure of being on TV did appeal to some. Anyways back to Jerome. I joked with him that he was on the wrong side of the gate and to not push his way in to get an autograph. He said he was just waiting for the E crew to overstep their bounds. We joked with him that we wanted to see him in action and he answered that noooo, he's just a big teddybear.
Anyways, he then went back inside and when I turned back to the barricades there were two 'agency photographers' (her words) standing next to me with these really fancy looking cameras (I guess they are the pics, someone brought the links to.
When Clay came out, he looked happy and smiling and Jerome instead of 'following' him, leaned against the wall next to the SD staring at the rather thin crowd. I didn't think anything of it at the time. I got video of Clay signing and taking pics with a couple of people and I HAVE VIDEO OF SAID SANDALS WITH STRIPED SOCKS! And that is where my camera was pointing at the time Jerome brought Clay back inside. Clayphan does have it on video though and she told me she could only post it today.
Our plan was for me to stand kind of across from Clayphan so we could get video from two different angles, and that once Clay had 'passed' me, I would come around to Clayphan's side so she could take the pic I was hoping to get with Clay.... well, unfortunately E! took care of that - so no pic...
When I do get my room and unpack, I will upload my video (including the socks and sandals) and post the link here.
I don't know whether Clay was frightened or not, but it sure happened in the blink of an eye. Jerome sure knows what he's doing when he wants to whisk Clay away.
I remember seeing a video of Jerome talking to the fans at the busline and Jerome telling the ladies not to use flashes and that the busline was not like when they are in their seats during concerts and security can't get to them. Jerome told them: "I don't have to get to you out here, I've got Clay and I'll take him out - even if he doesn't want to - I'll pull him..."
Well, that's it for the E! crew drama.
I will post a recap of the show after I have slept - my 'go to' guy at the front desk is making noises like I may get a room 'soon' - I hope he doesn't know Clay - grrrrrrrrrr

From mariedrummond:
I am Jewish and at many Jewish affairs (weddings, bar mitzvahs), it never fails that one of the 'old timers' does that 'stumping dance' that precedes the bottle dance. And I find that Clay has gotten the 'hand gesture', the 'snap' that is supposed to happen, down pat. I have seen many Jews NOT do it as well as he does it. I know it's a small thing, but I found it of particular interest.
